we had a baby

oh, it's only been 3 months since i've blogged. when you have a baby, move in with your parents for 3 weeks soon after that, and then pack a house and move half way across the country, blogging (and most everything besides eating and sleeping) take a back seat.

little sami was born on sept. 19! i was induced a week after my due date because she just liked being camped out in me! it must be comfortable and cozy in the womb :) i was very nervous about being induced because i had made NO progress (besides being 50% effaced) and was afraid the induction wouldn't work and i would have to have a c-section (the LAST thing i wanted). plus, my doctor told me to expect a long and hard labor. yay. we got to the hospital at 5am and by 7am i was starting to have contractions pretty frequently. my doctor had put in a cervix softener and that got everything going..quickly! the contractions didn't get too bad until about 11am and i thought i was going to DIE. i was only 3cm at that point so i couldn't get my epidural yet (had to wait until 4cm) so they gave me some IV meds that helped somewhat so i could relax in between contractions. i was finally able to get my epidural and i was in heaven! seriously, my contractions were off the chart and i couldn't feel a thing. i think being able to relax helped speed things up.

my parents got down to clarksville around 3pm and i figured it would be awhile until sami was ready to come out. well, little did i know i jumped from about 5cm-9cm within about 1.5 hours and was ready to start pushing soon! the nurses started setting everything up, dr. andrerson came in and after pushing for 13 minutes, little sami leigh was here! she cried for about a minute while they were cleaning her off on me and then she just got quiet and was wide eyed for the next 2 hours until they took her into the nursery.

i cried. isaac cried. it was the most incredible experience i have ever had! it was very surreal though, after waiting so long to get pregnant and going through almost 10 months of a pregnancy and she was finally here! it was wonderful to have my parents with us. they are quite smitten with sami and my dad asks for daily pictures to be sent to him :)

she is now 8 weeks old, we moved to el paso, and we are finally getting into the groove of this whole parenthood thing. she has proved to be difficult with some things, but most of the time she is a smiley baby and we can't help but love her and try to laugh things off when times get tough.

mostly, i am thankful for isaac. for giving me the gift of being a mom, for being the biggest support to me, and for loving our daughter. he's the best!

She is precious, Leanne. And I'd been wondering about your birth story, so I'm glad to know that story, too. I hope things in El Paso are going well. Miss you guys!
